Thriving in a Global Economy…Palo Verde High School, Las Vegas. NVCEE is teaming up with the Regional Professional Development Program of Southern Nevada to offer a one credit graduate course in international economics. Several topics will be covered over the two days such as why nations trade, the influence of trade on people and cultures, environmental impact of globalization, and the effects of trade on skilled and unskilled workers. All participants will receive a copy of Focus: Globalization, a 12 lesson curriculum package perfect for the high school classroom. During this three week promotional period teachers can learn the ins and outs of the website while also exploring teacher resources. Stock Market Game™ Fall Competition…Students teams of 3-5 participants in grades 4-12 invest a hypothetical $100,000 in a 10-week simulation. The SMG is a comprehensive, FREE educational program (courtesy of the Foundation for Investor Education) based on a real-life simulation of the stock market. The Stock Market Game teaches about the U.S. economic system while conveying and reinforcing basic concepts in economics, math, business, language arts, social studies, personal finance, and more. Is Capitalism Good for the Poor?…Location TBA, Las Vegas. This one day workshop, presented in partnership with the Foundation for Teaching Economics (FTE) features a new and exciting set of lesson plans and student activities designed to engage teachers and students in some of the most important economic issues of our time. The question is intentionally provocative, and the answer-yes or no-depends on the particular features of a nation's institutions and how we measure and perceive poverty.
